When ever I fall asleep my hands go numb. What’s wrong?

I am 55 y/o. I have sleep apnea and am overweight by 80-100lbs. If I fall asleep with my hands on my chest my little fingers and ring fingers start to go numb. At first I thought it was because of a spinal strain i have. My doctor says I drink to much alcohol (about 12 beers a week) All males in my family have sleep apnea. I've been tested and am awaiting the results. My wife says I stop breathing for as much as 30 seconds, at a time. I also snore.I believe I has low oxygen because of sleep apnea but have not been tested for that as of yet. Does anybody out there experience the same problems. My mother has diabetes and I'm concerned that I might be inheriting that disease as well. My blood glucose level after fasting 12 hours is 122. Looking forward to any response.
